Mballing is a village on the periphery of the department of Mbour, commune of Malicounda (Senegal). In this village, the main activities of women are oriented in the transformation of fishery products and micro-trading.
They have been carrying out these activities for generations, using basic methods. This is due to a lack of financial means for the purchase of better adapted equipment.
Given many difficulties that the women of the village of Mballing face, some of them have organized themselves into an economic interest group (EIG) called “AND LIGGEYE SUNU GUEDJ”.
Since September 2021, a total of 70 women have been contributing to the group to face some of their difficulties.
However, some constraints related to misunderstanding, trust and solidarity hinder the “desired” evolution of the fund.
On Thursday, January 27, 2022, a delegation from CAOPA, headed by President Gaoussou Gueye, went to the village of Mballing to talk with women and understand their realities.
Referring to the women’s solidarity fund of Nianing, a locality adjacent to the village of Mballing, Mr. Gueye gave wise advice to women for a better management of their solidarity fund.
