The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development of Ghana in partnership with the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OECP) organized the 7th Meeting of OECP Ministers in charge of Fisheries and Aquaculture in Accra, Ghana, from 5 to 8 April 2022.
The aim is “to raise awareness, foster constructive exchanges, learn lessons and develop policy actions, so as to promote an enabling environment for a dynamic, resilient and sustainable artisanal fisheries sector, which benefits from equitable access to resources and markets and whose stakeholders have a voice in decision-making processes,” says the concept note of the meeting.
The event was held under the theme “OACPS Blue Economy Agenda 2030 – Catalyzing Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture Development for the Future“.
On this occasion, CAOPA and LMMA were represented as guests. A delegation led by Gaoussou Gueye of CAOPA and Kesaia TABUNAKAWAI of LMMA, made the very appreciated presentation, “of the priorities of artisanal fisheries”, to the delegations and to the ministers of fisheries and aquaculture, who attended.
CAOPA and LMMA have developed notes relating to the topics on the agenda of the meeting as well as a call to action. And each note contains three (3) recommendations from the OEACP artisanal fisheries including: climate change, blue economy, transparency, IUU fishing, women in artisanal fisheries and food systems.
