PRESS RELEASE
Gaoussou GUEYE
President of CAOPA
Former member of the FiTI Board
Dear members of the International Board of Directors of the Fisheries Transparency Initiative (FiTI)
Following the end of my term of office as a member of the Board of Directors of the FiTI, on behalf of the African Confederation of Professional Organizations of Artisanal Fisheries (CAOPA), for two consecutive terms, I would like to thank you warmly for your election to continue the noble work of transparency in fisheries management.
From now on, CAOPA is represented on the Board by its Secretary General, Mr. Dawda Foday SAINE.
Indeed, CAOPA has been working on transparency in marine fisheries since 2011, and has played an active role in the development of the FiTI standards.
As an organization working to strengthen the rights and protect the livelihoods of small-scale fishing communities in Africa, CAOPA recognizes that transparency is an essential element in the management of African fisheries.
Today, it is important to highlight some of the challenges faced by coastal communities: the reports that are produced are not accessible to the target communities (language barriers) and the accessibility of these same communities to information related to the fisheries sector is a problem…
What mechanism should be put in place for access to information and its appropriation by the target audience?
Dear colleagues, I hope that you will be able to meet these challenges during your term of office.
On my own behalf and on behalf of CAOPA, I wish you every success in your new role and in achieving your goals.
Dear Colleagues, wishing you all the best in your new ventures, let me say this simple word that is full of meaning: Thank you!
